About IFESCU

The Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Chittagong University (IFESCU) is Bangladesh's pioneer academic institution in forestry and environmental education, established in 1976 as the Institute of Forestry. Renamed IFESCU in 1996, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil., and Ph.D. degree programs across Forestry and Environmental Sciences, having successfully graduated 41 batches in Forestry and 20 batches in Environmental Science to date. Nestled within a 510-acre University Forest housing 304 tree species and a 3-acre nursery producing 200,000 seedlings annually, IFESCU combines academic learning with hands-on conservation. Its advanced infrastructure features a Seed Research Laboratory preserving seeds of 406 tree species, Environmental Research Laboratory, GIS and Climate Change Research Laboratories, and active research programs in conservation, restoration, carbon sequestration, remote sensing, and environmental pollution, impact, ecological and health risk assessment of environmental matrices. Through strategic national partnerships with MoEFCC and the Bangladesh Forest Department, alongside global collaborations with the World Bank, EU, USAID, and international universities, IFESCU leads vital restoration for critically endangered species like Civit and Boilam. Honored with multiple Prime Minister's Gold Medals and the National Environment Award 2025, IFESCU stands as Bangladesh’s flagship center for environmental stewardship.
